The cypress tree stands upright as a symbol of truth and justice, and resolute as a symbol of freedom and liberty. According to legend, anyone who breathed the scent of the tree could not be deceitful in its presence.

This cone would birth a cypress tree on the west coast of America. It has been transmuted here into the porcelain that will outlive even those majestic cypresses. Historically, the pine cone is a symbol for the small conical tissue mass in the middle of our brains named the pineal gland. It is referred to as "the third eye."

May this netsuke spark contemplation and spiritual growth as straight and true as a cypress.

What is a netsuke?

Netsuke (pronounced "nets-keh") were once widely used in Japan as a functional piece to secure something to one's attire. We made these as thoughtful and aesthetic decorative pieces.

The making process

The needles are made out of reclaimed mahogany. Polished and finished, they focus on the wood fibers. The leather cords feature slip-knots to make it adjustable for anyone. Each sculpted porcelain piece is unique and some may have a "blush" spot from the firing.

Materials

The porcelain sculpture, mahogany needles and eco-friendly leather (no toxic chemicals used in its production - vegetable tanned).

Dimensions

The porcelain sculptures are .75 inches long and .75 inches wide. The sculptures are hollow to feel light while wearing.
